Describes the site development and authoring tools
Austega uses for web and intranet development
AUSTEGA USES open-source, Adobe and Microsoft development tools.
This allows us to use the most appropriate tool for the particular task.
In many cases this depends on the client's needs and ongoing role in
maintaining and developing the site. It is not particularly useful to
have a site developed using one tool and paradigm if the client's expertise
and capacities are in another direction entirely. Since 2006 we have predominantly developed communities based on the open-source Joomla! content management system (CMS) - together with the best of the thousands of extensions that have been written for this platform.
Technologies/tools used by Austega include:
Joomla! CMS - including proven extensions such as JoomlaPack, JCE, EventList, Acajoom Newsletter, JomComment, JomSocial, Kunena (forum), ProjectFork, Finder (advanced site search), Captcha
mySQL, PHP, javascript
Dreamweaver
Flash
Fireworks
FrontPage
Acrobat Writer
Photoshop
WaveStudio

Cost-efficient tools are essential to automate and manage the multitude
of work streams required to author and maintain a vibrant and living
site. Many of our sites are designed to allow various levels or types
of decentralized authoring by clients, including using the superb open-source Joomla! content management system.
While ongoing maintenance goals can often determine the key authoring
approach, state-of-the-art tools are still essential to deliver engaging
interactive experiences on the web and intranet. The need for glitz
is often overplayed, but the need for user engagement is not.
